Gujarat, long associated with the Asiatic lion of Gir, is expanding its wildlife conservation efforts with the development of Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in Porbandar. Spanning 192 sq km, Barda is rich in biodiversity, hosting various wildlife species and serving as a seasonal home for migratory water birds. In October 2024, the Gujarat Forest Department launched morning and evening jungle safaris, supported by trained guides to ensure visitor safety and awareness. Eco-tourism activities aim to balance wildlife conservation with tourism, offering an immersive nature experience. Future plans include enhancing facilities and infrastructure to strengthen conservation. Barda marks a significant step alongside Gir in Gujarat’s commitment to ecological preservation and sustainable tourism.
